Review
This is a quick review applies to version 2.9
With SiteAdvisor software installed, your browser will look a little different than before. We add small site rating icons to your search results as well as a browser button and optional search box. Together, these alert you to potentially risky sites and help you find safer alternatives.
These site ratings are based on tests conducted by McAfee using an army of computers that look for all kinds of threats (detailed below). The result is a guide to Web safety.
The SiteAdvisor technology is free, easy to install and even easier to use. And it doesn't collect any personally identifiable information.
The following full-length review applies to version 2.6
McAfee's SiteAdvisor is an online security application. The SiteAdvisor service is composed of several bots that spend day and night verifying most websites and checking whether they are secure to browse or not. This application summarizes those safety results onto your web browsers. Once you open a page, there will be a colored icon at the bottom right corner of Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. If the color is green, the website is secure. If the color is yellow, the site contains elements that are considered by the results or people in general as adware or spyware. And, finally, if the color is red, the user is advised not to share his personal information or trust the site. Most of the sites will have a green status, while a good number of them will be yellow, but that is not something to worry about. SiteAdvisor protects the user from virus, malicious code, adware, spyware, identity theft, and online scams. The last two items of that list are probably the most important security threats nowadays, and SiteAdvisor detects them and tells the user not to incur in any activity with those sites. |
- Lets you browse the dangerous world wide web safely.
- Runs hidden, but alerts when an unsafe website is opened.
